Is Switching from iPhone to android easy?

Posted: 11 Jun 2016 01:36 PM PDT

tl;dr: I want to hear from people who recently switched from iPhone to Android and their experiences with shifting data over, like things in iCloud and iTunes etc. I've been an iPhone user since the 4S and have always believed that iOS was the better of the two OS vs Android. But recently I'm seeing that the gap is closing and may have even shifted in Android's favor. The functions on Marshmallow and the announcement for Android N gives me excitement that I haven't had with Apple in a long time. Unless Apple really blows me away with the improvements in iOS 10 (especially with Siri) and with the iPhone 7 in the fall. I may strongly consider switching to an Android phone like Galaxy S7 Edge. The problem is that I am so balls deep in the iCloud/Apple ecosystem. I use their default apps for mail, calendar, tons of music on iTunes, tons of photos on iCloud etc. If I did decide to switch to Android would it be easy? I would love to hear from people who recently switched about their experiences.

[App] Helper for KDE Connect

Posted: 11 Jun 2016 10:37 AM PDT

If you use Linux on your computer and you have an Android device chances are you use KDE Connect/heard of it.

If you don't know what it is: KDE Connect is the bridge between your Linux computer and your Android smartphone, your DE does not need to be KDE (I use GNOME in Arch and KDE Connect works perfectly). KDE Connect allows you to send text and links from and to your phone/computer, control the mouse/keyboard, control media players... this app is a godsend for Linux users.

But there is one small problem that annoyed me, when I sent a link to my phone the notification didn't redirect to the link itself (or open automatically) rather to the app. Also, I wanted to send text and share it or copy it.

So, I decided to write an app to solve these problems.

More than 3 months later, how are you liking the Galaxy S7/edge?

Posted: 11 Jun 2016 09:58 AM PDT

I got the Galaxy S7 edge. Love its camera and battery life. Taking pictures on this thing is a pleasure.

Compared to the Galaxy S6, this phone has held up very well. I felt like throwing my S6 in frustration after a month or two due to the multitasking issues. No such issues with the Galaxy S7 edge.

The edge screen is nothing but a gimmick though. It looks cool for sure, but serves no real purpose.

Regular software updates from Samsung have been like a cherry on top. Really like this phone.

Only two issues/improvements I would like Samsung see make:

1) Better DAC. I have the Exynos variant, but the sound quality of the handset does not hold a candle against the HTC 10.

2) Faster fingerprint scanner. Somehow I feel the fingerprint scanner on the Galaxy S7 edge is not as fast as the one on the Nexus 6P, Moto G4 Plus etc. I don't like it being placed at the front either, though that is a personal preference.

What about you guys?

Text selected by the new Now On Tap feature should be able to be copied and also have an option for translation.

Posted: 10 Jun 2016 05:19 PM PDT

The new Now on Tap update is great, it's even more useful now! But I had this idea.

I just tried, hoping to translate some Spanish text on my reddit app. I was able to highlight all of the text in with now on tap, but there is no way to translate it right there, and no way to copy it to paste into the translate app. Hopefully this feature will eventually come.

[Dev] Snackbar Tasker Plugin 8.1 Update - With Custom Sheets!

Posted: 11 Jun 2016 01:23 PM PDT

Hello everyone! Today I have a really special update for the Snackbar Tasker Plugin that I think you all are going to appreciate!

Up to now if you created a sheet you could only have one kind of an item, whether it was a simple list item or a switch. Now with custom sheets you have so much more potential to create the sheet you want! Here is what is different:

  • With custom sheets you can add any type of item (list will grow in further updates) [text, switch, seekbar, input, and divider]
  • You can also set each item to behave differently with a different text color
  • Each item has a different persistence option as well so one can take you to another screen while another will just change a setting in the background

Finally this update fixes the last bit of crashes and issues from the changes in the previous version which should help alleviate all the issues you may have experienced. Thanks! :D

I made a 100% free multi-timer app for Android Wear! (Link to app in comments)

Posted: 11 Jun 2016 12:32 PM PDT

First off, Play Store link Simple Wear Timer

The app allows you to set up multiple timers and chronometers, and run them all at once.

The project started off as a way to have functionality similar to the Multi Timer app from the Pebble watch but on the Android Wear platform, and to simplify the clunky (in my opinion) user inteface of the default timer.

So this app allows you to run, stop, reset or delete each timer from the same screen, with minimal input, and also provides a fast way to create new ones. I tried to be as explanatory as possible with the layout, and keep it as simple as I could.

I only have a Zenwatch 2, so I could test it only for square screens on Marshmallow. The rest of the testing was done on emulators, so if you find any problems with the layout, with round screens in particular, I would really appreciate if you could leave some feedback.

I hope that the app is useful for you, and again, welcome your feedback so that I can continue to improve the app.
