| Adware and phones bought overseas Posted: 12 Sep 2016 12:39 PM PDT In short, my family has an exchange student living with us. He bought his phone (Samsung A5) at some random dealer in Pakistan. He has no unusual apps on his phone and I've run Malwarebytes with no results of malware. Yet, he gets pop-ups all the time. It doesn't matter if he's using a browser or not. Is it possible that the dealer installed adware? How can we get his phone clean? What concerns should we have about his phone on our Wi-Fi (if any)? Thanks. [link] [comments]  |

My only options are install now or later. I can't even hard disable notifications for GameMode as it is disables, same as removing the damn thing. If I force stop it just starts itself too. Any help? The phone was locked sitting on the table and I was nearby eating. All of a sudden it played a sound(the same one it plays when confirming a command from Google voice search) and asked for the screen to be unlocked. When opening the phone it went straight to the search "Woodland" WTF?! I was home eating not speaking in a absolutely quite room. This is the second time it happened. Any clues? [link] [comments]  |

Posted: 12 Sep 2016 03:39 PM PDT I dropped my Sony Xperia Z3 from my balcony and now the screen is completely shattered and unusable. I want to copy my files from my phone to my PC but can't because I need to press a button to grant my PC access to my phone. When I insert a USB cable my phone says:
I need the 'Transfer files (MTP)' option but I can select it because my screen is knackered. So whenever I insert the USB cable, I can't do anything. I'm stuck. So, I need some other way to be able to access my files, bypassing the 'Use USB for' prompt. Thankfully my phone isn't password locked. What would be the easiest way? I'm on Linux Mint 18 if that's any help, however, I have a Windows (7/8?) laptop at my disposal, if necessary. [link] [comments]  |

Posted: 12 Sep 2016 03:32 PM PDT http://i.imgur.com/1dEh1ku.png Whenever I leave my house and go on my data network, my phone will constantly pop this up any time I am not on the highway. It must be trying to connect to any chromecast within its range. To make it worse, whenever I am at my friends house (who has a chromecast/google fiber) and I turn on my phone, it will switch off the cable and try to connect to the chromecast. Basically rendering my device useless if we want to watch something. I have yet to figure out how to solve this issue. Factory data resetting will not work, I have done that 20+ in the past month. | Posted: 12 Sep 2016 03:23 PM PDT I've had several Samsung galaxys, up until the note 4. I then went to LG v10 due to the removable battery since the note line stopped doing removable battery. I've used a jailbreaked iPhone briefly and was very disappointed. It was way back then, 3s or something. I missed Android horribly. At this point...my must haves are: 1. Huge screen 2. Removable battery The lgv20 is a future option...but it's not that "different" for me. I'd go for the note 7, but thats obviously iffy. I'm considering not caring about the removable battery as long as i have a great battery and options for battery packs. So that leaves me with the iPhone!!!! I own an older model iPad...which I like...but not love. I use it for simple tasks like streaming video and access to apps not available on Android. I love my iPad for one reason: long lasting battery. So maybe a removable battery is moot. So you can see my dilemma. I'm ready for a new phone after my lg v10 but the only appealing option is the iPhone. One big reason why is because they do make better accessories such as cases (like a case that is it's own battery pack). Any input for me to stay with Android and on T-Mobile? [link] [comments]  |

Posted: 12 Sep 2016 11:56 AM PDT My device is a Nexus 5X, I've extracted the bootloader-bullhead-bhz10r.img, vendor.img, and radio-bullhead-m8994f-2.6.32.1.13.img files from an official stock ROM, can I flash these img files through TWRP rather than fastboot? EDIT: No, they can't. When selecting an img file to flash through TWRP you can flash it as system, recovery, boot, or vendor. The other images (radio and bootloader) have to be flashed via fastboot. | I'm an iPhone user that is considering moving to Android; Help convince me? Posted: 12 Sep 2016 02:07 PM PDT I've been using Apple devices for as long as I can remember. MacBooks, iPads, iPhones, etc. All of my smartphones have been Apple, and I currently have the iPhone 5s. While I admittedly do still like Apple, there have been some things that I really would like but cannot attain with stock iOS, like full customization of my phone, and full freedom to do what I want to do with it. It is sometimes frustrating that I have to abide by Apple's design only, just because they said so. I've been looking into alternatives, and was recently looking at a list of the "10 Top Smartphones of 2016" or something like that. The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is what topped their list, and after some relatively extensive research, it looks like a great phone. However, I'm still hesitating quite a bit. I'll really, really miss my iOS exclusive features, like iMessage, AirDrop, iCloud, Apple Music (I've heard that it doesn't run nearly as well on Android), the ability to sync with all of my devices at once via iCloud, streaming to Apple TV, etc. On top of that, I've become so used to Apple's design, and how everything is set up. In my experience, it's an unpopular opinion with Android users, but I actually find Apple's UI design quite beautiful, even if a bit simple. I know that with Android I could emulate the iPhone's UI and more, but I'm still so hesitant. I really would like to make the move, but I don't know that I'm ready to throw $800 at a phone that I don't know for sure that I'll love. What would you say to convince someone like myself, who finds themselves wanting to move to Android, but is frankly a bit nervous about it? [link] [comments]  |

Posted: 12 Sep 2016 01:54 PM PDT I put them in hibernation mode using Greenify and then will randomly check back 30 minutes to an hour later and they will be unmarked and 'pending hibernation'. Somehow they become unchecked. Probably wouldn't mind if it were other apps but these two are the biggest battery drains for me. Any ideas? (Using Moto X 2014, 5.1) [link] [comments]  |

Posted: 12 Sep 2016 01:53 AM PDT My bank app has this annoying behavior where no matter what you're doing, regardless if you're in another app or in the middle of typing, it will sometimes pop into focus asking if you want to be continue its session. This shit should seriously be against some Google policy, but I have no idea how to report it. Is there any way to prevent this behavior or report it? [link] [comments]  |

Also, it would be great to add a feature so that the videos can play in background. This will be great while listening to music and doing other things on the phone. Another thing to mention, YouTube app feels slow in switching between the video quality when it's set to "Auto" (compared to the iOS app or the Desktop website). [link] [comments]  |
