Why isn't Face-unlock with fingerprint not an option for security? Posted: 12 Jun 2016 05:01 AM PDT I was just curious, wouldn't this add a significant amount of protection for users who say stuff like "if i'm sleep someone can easily swipe my finger". I think a combination of both would be more secure no? [link] [comments]

USB Type C and 3.5mm Audio Misconceptions Posted: 12 Jun 2016 03:43 PM PDT With the announcement of the removal of the 3.5mm jack on the Moto Z, there seems to be some confusion as to how audio can come out of a Type C port. Here are two common misconceptions that should be clarified:
No, the official USB Type C standard allows for "alternate" modes. One of those modes supports re-purposing pins for an "audio accessory mode" which sends analog audio signals over USB Type C straight from your device's own DAC + amp just like any old 3.5mm cable. An USB Type C to 3.5mm adapter can be a straight pass-thru without an in-line DAC and/or amp because of this alternate mode and thus it can be super cheap to obtain. http://i.imgur.com/y6xCS9u.png
No, the official USB Type C standard allows for an adapter cable to be simply split into a charging cable and a 3.5mm cable, allowing you to both charge your phone and listen to music at the same time through the same port without a bulky hub. Again, since this cable is completely passive, it can be super cheap to obtain. http://i.imgur.com/ihAW9jI.png These "audio accessory mode" specifications have existed since Release 1.0 of the USB Type C spec in 2014. Obviously, since there really hasn't been an use case for this mode till recently, it will be up to Lenovo to decide on if and how they implement this. It is important to note that the LeEco Le 2, which already has gotten rid of the 3.5mm, seems to use a passive USB Type C to 3.5mm adapter. [link] [comments]

Those who ordered an hTC 10 at launch - How do you feel about your decision now? Posted: 12 Jun 2016 03:49 PM PDT Still loving it? Any quirks that have proved to be more annoying than at first glance? [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Jun 2016 11:52 AM PDT So I thought it would be a good idea to have a place where people can talk about the Good Lock App and make wishes for future updates. That way it's easier for Samsung to see what people want to see in the App. My wishes: -much better performance It's still janky when you pull down the statusbar and other things like the recents -battery improvements -option to make the Lockscreen fully aosp like -option to add/delete quick tiles -option to have fully aosp icons in the statusbar What are your suggestions and wishes? Nextbit Continues Promise - June Security updates roll out. Posted: 11 Jun 2016 08:29 PM PDT So, Just got my June Security updates on my Robin. Which have managed to come before they have started rolling out for my Nexus 6P, in the region. I'm still incredibly impressed with that factor - a start-up can push out OTA updates faster than Google can for Australia. I'm still running May on my 6P. The update for me also fixed an issue where one of my speakers was crackling as well. So that's also a welcomed bonus! [link] [comments]

Posted: 11 Jun 2016 09:21 PM PDT Disclaimer: The information provided in this post may be valid, invalid, or a mix of both. Use completely at your own risk. There's already a weekly official news digest on this subreddit, but this is basically a second one, which in my opinion is a bit better and more detailed. This could be the only one ever made, or the first of many, it all depends on the community's feedback. Rumors and possible leaksPlease note that these kinds of articles might range from accurate predictions to completely false claims, you can't know, so treat their content with absolute caution. ~ A possible lack of Android N at launch ~ Skipping a number for the phone's name ~ An iris scanncer ,etc, but we've yet to see the actual product to confirm any of this at all.
~ 5.5-inch AMOLED 1080p screen ~ NFC support ~ 4GB/6GB RAM ~ 64GB internal storage ~ 3000Mah battery ~ Snapdragon 820 SoC ~ An amazing $369 price ,etc, but until the actual launch event it's all pure speculation and leaks. What's not a leak though, is some sample photos from the OnePlus 3, taken by OnePlus's CEO, although you can't know the actual camera performance from just a few images, so wait until reviewers get their hands on the phone first.
Cool New Phones
Note: The Moto Z Force is the higher specced one, but it seems like a Verizion exclusive. The Moto Z is also a Verizion exclusive, but only temporarily as the worldwide launch is around September 2016. Aside from the specs of those new flagship phones from Motorola, or now actually just Moto, there's the new MotoMods modular accessories. Unlike the LG G5's modular accessories, Moto's ones are external, and work without rebooting the phone at all. Although both modular phones support third party accessories, I don't think I've heard of any for the LG G5, but if there's any, then let me know. The Moto Z and Moto Z Force currently have, for MotoMods, a battery case, a mini projector case, and a JBL speaker case. Both phones have a USB Type-C port, although some people might care more about the lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack, which the iPhone 7 is also rumored to skip as well. For more details, check out TechRadar's hands on review, and/or find another one from a good website. Remember Google's Project Tango, or now just "Tango"? Augmented reality, 3D mapping, motion tracking, etc, all of this has finally landed in a consumer phone, namely the huge 6.4 inches, yes, 6.4 inches, more than the Galaxy S7 Edge, and it's called the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro, and to do all the amazing Tango stuff, there's three cameras/lenses on the back, specifically the normal 16MP camera, and depth and motion cameras as well. With a huge 4050Mah battery, Dolby Atmos support along with Dolby 5.1 channel audio capture, this definitely isn't a low end phone at all, but the interesting parts, which are the Tango components, those need really good software, and we'll see when the phone is released how the Tango software ecosystem evolves. That ecosystem includes a Tango powered app by Lowe's, and although Lowe's doesn't seem like a place that sells phones, because it most probably doesn't at all as far as I know, it has made an exception for Lenovo's device. Lowe's app might let you see furniture items in 3D before buying them, as if they were actually in your house, although I'm not sure about its exact features, but that one would be cool. Click here to read TechRadar's full hands on with the Tango-powered phone. This phone is basically the Galaxy S7 with some modifications to fit the rugged style "Active" brand, including a bigger battery, and as before, an AT&T exclusive, but don't expect a really different phone, because it's the same processor, camera, and most internals as well. Be prepared to pay a $100 more than the ordinary Galaxy S7 costs, though. Operating SystemsPhones are cool, but what about the Android OS itself? Aside from Android N news, there's the brand new Android Wear 2.0 OS for wearables, probably coming soon, although there's no officially announced date from Google yet. Also, whether or not the original Moto 360 smartwatch can technically support the upgrade, it's sadly not going to get it at all, but for the wearables that will, though, you've got: ~ Cool, sleek material design ~ A keyboard, yes, a keyboard ~ A new Google Now search screen ~ A single and simple quick settings menu ~ Uninstalling or force closing apps directly from your smartwatch ,etc. To know more, just click here for a full hands-on review by 9To5Google. That's the end, and thank you for reading this far! Honest suggestions are welcomed in the comments below. [link] [comments]

PSA: Android Pay now works with systemless root & custom DPI. Posted: 12 Jun 2016 07:16 AM PDT I hadn't been able to use Android Pay with systemless root without going back to stock DPI but now it works. I can add cards while still using custom DPI as well as make purchases. I just bought something at Dunkin donuts without a problem. EDIT: Works with both the adb and build.prop methods. Moto Mod prices are listed on My Verizon Posted: 12 Jun 2016 08:22 AM PDT I have been keeping a close eye on My Verizon app, to see when the Moto Z Force becomes available (to replace my time bomb G4). I noticed they have prices listed for the Mods. https://imgur.com/gallery/55Fc5 Projector is $299. Powerpack $89. Wireless powerpack $99. Kate Spade shell is $79. I didn't see a price for the other style shells. No info yet on the phone itself, though this does hint at sometime soon. [link] [comments]
When can we Generally expect new nexus "leaks"/Rumors? Posted: 12 Jun 2016 12:33 AM PDT I'm really want to upgrade from my Nexus 5 right now, and the 6p is looking really nice. However, I'm trying to wait at least a couple more months to see what the new version(s) has in store, even if specs are only rumors. But I, personally, haven't heard anything yet, I'm guessing it's way too early (unless I'm wrong about that). In addition, even if I don't find interest in the new version, the 6p will maybe be even cheaper (and still as attractive) than it is now. Just wondering when rumors generally emerge (if there is such thing as "generally") [link] [comments] |
