Why does Gboard have pipe instead of backslash? Is pipe really used more? Posted: 01 Jan 2017 11:58 AM PST You have to switch to the special character board to get the backslash. Really? [link] [comments] |
Is there a uBlockOrigin or HostsBlock for android? Posted: 01 Jan 2017 10:04 AM PST I've found a hosts block app in the appstore, but you have to manually enter each host. That'll take years to add all hosts I want to block. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jan 2017 10:42 AM PST So last night I made the fortunate discovery of the company Xiaomi and their phones. I have been recently looking for a new phone and due to living in Canada and being a teenager I'm very limited to what I can actually get in terms of new phones for a decent price. So while searching last night I found Xiaomi and their incredible line of phones, the mi5 line specifically catching my eye. Now everything fits what I want with these phones the only issue being is my parents do not trust this company due to it being based in China so they will be "cheap knock offs". I was wondering if I could try to persuade them and solve their worries by getting some questions answered like how is there warranty? And how have your Xiaomi phones been holding up since purchasing them? Also how can i show my parents that they truly are the best price to performance. [link] [comments] |
Difference between CyanogenMod, Carbon, etc Posted: 01 Jan 2017 11:23 AM PST Hi all, I own a OnePlus 2 and am pretty sure the phone will never get Android 7 Nougat officially. So I started looking into CyanogenMod but now they're dead. I really want a stable version of Android 7 on my phone, but have no idea what to install. Now, I read about Carbon ROM and keep seeing different ROMs on XDA. So could someone please explain the difference and which I should pick? Thank you very much. [link] [comments] |
Can I use my phone to emulate the NFC key to my building? Posted: 01 Jan 2017 01:06 PM PST My building is opened with an NFC key, and I would like to be able to open the doors with my phone. I searched if I could find something that worked, but most threads seemed quite old and didn't work. I have a Nexus 5X running Cyanogenmod 14.1. I read that there were some issues with the ID being generated every new instance, but I assume that in a few years those issues could have been fixed? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 Jan 2017 02:33 PM PST I have a samsung galaxy S7 and when running the "Internet" app from Samsung pressing the backspace key in google's gboard constantly leaves the last letter. So if I wrote "Test" and hit backspace it would leave "Tet" and the cursor would move to the left of the last "t". I tried Chrome and Firefox with no issues whatsoever, only Samsung's internet app. Any thoughts? I tried googling this issue and can't find anyone else with this issue. [link] [comments] |
How to delete Yahoo account from Gmail app Posted: 01 Jan 2017 08:18 AM PST How do you delete a Yahoo email account from the Gmail app? I googled this issue, and it appears that old solutions no longer work, due to updates to Android and the Gmail app. I'm on 7.1.1. I've deleted my Yahoo account from my "accounts" under the Android settings tab. I've also deleted the cache and data from my Gmail app, but when I reopen the app after doing so, my Yahoo email account automatically connects to the Gmail app. Also, within the Gmail app itself, there is no way to remove the Yahoo email account. YuBrowser not loading AMP Google search links? Posted: 01 Jan 2017 02:12 PM PST Clicking any AMP links leads to a blank page that won't load for search results links. Deleting /amp from the front and back of URLs works and the page will load but it's a pain in the ass. Anyone else have this problem or have a solution (or a better AdBlock chromium browser to use)? Thanks in advance. Edit: on Nexus 6p and 7.1.1 [link] [comments] |
Could a SIM card cause a laggy device? Posted: 01 Jan 2017 08:27 AM PST tl;dr - had 2 LG V10s, both have been laggy and sluggish, unfixable. Getting a Pixel soon and don't want it to be the same. The only thing transferred between my two V10's was the SIM card, thinking that could be the culprit. So back last January, I bought the LG V10 from T Mobile after having owned the Nexus 5. I was excited to have another up-to-date phone again and see what cool features a late 2015 $700 phone would have. From the very beginning, the phone had been sluggish, stuttery, and laggy. To best describe it, imagine using one of those budget $50 smartphones from like 2013, or using your phone with tons of heavy apps in the background. That's how my phone always ran. I tried absolutely everything to fix it, from disabling tons of apps to factory resetting multiple times, even carefully installed apps to see if something was screwing with my phone. Absolutely nothing ever fixed it, guess I would just have to deal with it. Fast forward to the summer and my phone's GPS is crapping out, so I finally have a good excuse to get it replaced. I pick up my new phone from T Mobile and the only thing transferred over is the SIM card and battery. I was excited to finally have a working device and just assumed my last phone was faulty. But nope, this device was just as bad, maybe a little worse. At this point I couldn't believe that a $600 - $700 high end phone could run so badly from the beginning. The only thing transferred between phones was the SIM card and the battery. I was like, maybe Android is just this bad and my Nexus 5 was just one of the good phones? I factory reset multiple times, even without the SIM card in, but nothing. Then I tried using similar apps on other phones such as my dad's Galaxy S5, my sister's LG G4, even my wife's Galaxy S6 edge and they ran so much smoother. What?! Fast forward to today and I got a Google Pixel in the mail. Not gonna open it yet, gonna take it to T Mobile to see if they'd give me that rebate they were promoting. But when I do open it, I am horrified to think that this phone will perform horribly and I suspect maybe my SIM card is to blame, and that's the only denominator. Could it be possible that a SIM card could cause a faulty device? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jan 2017 08:32 AM PST It started happening a couple of days ago. It went off while I was in a meeting and I couldn't track it down what it is. It then happened again to me last night while I was using the phone and it did not display a notification or anything. it was literally just a single vibrate and it said "hey!" Any ideas? I do not have my notification sounds set to this on any apps. When it happened, I was scrolling through my Reddit feed on Sync for Reddit. Thanks everyone, and Happy New Years! [link] [comments] |

[Galaxy Note 4 AT&T] SMS text app to eliminate group messages? Posted: 01 Jan 2017 12:49 PM PST I have been getting group SMS conversations regularly over the holidays with greetings, and some of these group conversations have upwards of 25 recipients. I don't even know who these people are, and I can't find a way to get myself out of the seemingly endless notifications. Is there an SMS app for android that will allow me to block group conversations? I can't even block the individual numbers from the text app. So frustrating! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jan 2017 12:49 PM PST Ever since I switched to Android I can't open Netflix on my home Wifi without it crashing. I have hard reset the router and phone (Google Pixel) multiple times. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Netflix multiple times . I've forgotten and re-signed into my WiFi network multiple times. Nothing seems to help. I can turn off wifi and it runs smoothly and it works on my wife's iPhone and iPad in wifi. Anyone got a fix for this? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 Jan 2017 10:40 AM PST This is a shot in the dark but heres my dilemma. I have an LG Watch Urbane. I run indoors on a treadmill. I recently purchased a Polar H7 heart rate monitor (HRM) and I've found a few apps that work. All the apps will sync the HRM to the phone for real time tracking during runs, but only one or two (ghostracer, endomondo) will then display the heartrate in real time on my watch. MapMyRun and the other big name apps will not do this which is frustrating. I've been using endomondo now for a while but noticed that, because I'm running indoors, the app wont track my distance, and more importantly, wont allow me to edit in the distance after the run. To combat this, I purchased a polar stride sensor which I had hoped would give me real time distance stats. Well, that sensor doesnt connect with endomondo. In fact, the only app ive found that provides real time stats on heart rate and stride is the adidas train and run app. However.....the adidas app does not have an android wear companion app to check my heart rate on my watch as I run. So, I'm in a bind and I'm hoping for help. Does anyone know of an app that:
Any help here would be so appreciated. Tried strava, endomondo, ghostrunner, mapmyrun, adidas train and run, runkeeper, wahoo fitness, polar flow (which doesnt even have android support for its own stride sensor!) and sport gear tracker. Thank you so much in advance. [link] [comments] |
Pac Man 256 + GamePad ... How? Posted: 01 Jan 2017 02:06 PM PST Reading online that Pac Man 256 is game-pad compatible. I have rooted devices, and a GameSir G3s controller. How do I get the game-pad to work with Pac Man 256? Do I need to do custom keymapping? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jan 2017 08:06 AM PST My mother gave me a friend at work's phone that he dropped with the hopes of getting some pictures off. He won't be able to see his daughter in a long time, and the only recent pictures he has of her are on this phone. I tried plugging it in to my computer, but USB Debugging must not be on, as no file structure appears in My Computer. I have no idea how to unlock it (or if the touchscreen even works) nor what account it is using, though I could try to get the account information later if needed. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
Phone Plugged into Computer: Charging But Not Transferring (MTP Enabled) Posted: 01 Jan 2017 11:31 AM PST Hey guys, I was trying to transfer some files between my Galaxy S6 and Computer. When I plugged in the USB cord into my computer, my phone would register as charging, but would not show up as a device on my computer. In fact, my phone wouldn't even recognize that it was "connected" to the computer, except for the fact that there was a little notification saying that it was "Cable Charging". When I tried to click on the notification, nothing happens. (It doesn't give me the normal notification which lets me select what kind of connection I want: Charging/MTP/PTP/etc.) I enabled Dev Options, turned on USB Debugging, made sure that USB Connection Option was MTP (in the Dev Options), all to no avail. I also tried the *#0808# method, checked MDP+ADB, still nothing. When I plug in my Mom's phone (also an S6), my computer immediately recognized a device had been connected. Does anyone have any other ideas for what I could do? I'm not sure if my device is defective or if there's some random setting that is blocking my phone from being recognized by my computer. Would greatly appreciate help in setting up my device as an always-on clock while charging Posted: 01 Jan 2017 01:32 PM PST I have a stock Nexus 5x. I've enabled screensaver function to show the clock, which is exactly what I want. It runs while charging, all good. The problem I can't seem to solve is that, after a few minutes, the screen turns off and it goes black. I want to keep it running, preferably 24/7 (so long as its charging) so it works as a desk clock (I have a charging cradle for it). I've tried adjusting the sleep timer settings, as well as turning on 'keep awake' from developer options but that makes the screensaver not work at all. To reiterate, the screensaver is working as I want it to and looks fine. I just need help finding a way to make it run indefinitely while charging, instead of the screen turning off after a few minutes. Any help with this would be great, I've tried my best google-fu and have not come up with much useful info. Thanks in advance and happy new year! [link] [comments] |
(X-Post r/Android) I still haven't received 7.0 Nougat on my Nexus 6!! Posted: 01 Jan 2017 11:15 AM PST
When it comes to computers I'm about a 5/10 as far as my problem-solving abilities and overall intelligence. When my phone is connected and I'm trying to flash an OTA (I've already enrolled in the beta program, and got no update btw) I'm about a 3/10. Those are safe numbers, I believe I'm a bit more knowledgeable than I think. So I had a go at downloading the official OTA and getting it on my phone. Every time I unzipped the Nexus 6 OTA it left me with a bunch of unreadable or un-executable files, nothing like what's shown on the various youtube tutorials I watched. I guess I'm going to wait it out. If someone wants to help me PM me please!! [link] [comments] |

Card removed from Android Pay with no notification or email? Posted: 01 Jan 2017 01:09 PM PST Is it just because of the New Year? I opened up the app today to see if there were any Uber promos and noticed my card was completely gone in the list, but not my store loyalty cards. It just said 'Add a card'. So I readded it, no problem, but...I didn't receive any emails, nothing about this. Everything looks fine in my Google account and bank account, and no one has had access to my phone. I last used it on the 30th both with Uber and in a store with NFC. Should I be worried or is this normal? OnePlus One, no root, running Marshmallow. [link] [comments] |
How to factory reset, & transfer some cherry picked data? Posted: 01 Jan 2017 07:58 AM PST Thank you everyone for the great resource of information. I have a Note 4 sm n910t T Mobile. Rooted, with titanium backup. Android 6.0.1 I have way too many apps & junk collected over a few years & want to reset my phone & start fresh. I'm confused about what the best option is. I want to keep information such as- Contacts, photos, s notes, calendar, and some of my files. (some info is stored on internal memory, & some on the sd card) I want to get rid of all the boat & lag I've accumulated. For example, I have something silly like 90%+ of internal memory tied up. I don't really mind spending time to manually reinstall apps & set them up, but is there an easy way to do this? It would be awesome if I could run my old phone on a virtual machine on my desktop, factory reset the real phone, & manually reinstall what I wanted.
Basically I think I want to:
Without having to write down all the info such as what apps, their settings, etc. so that I know what to install Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Kindle Fire HDX 3rd gen using tons of data. Posted: 01 Jan 2017 10:33 AM PST Hi. I'll get to the point. My mother's kindle has been using tons of data this month. So I used a data monitor app to discover that Facebook (of course...) and a few kindle apps were using LOTS of data by syncing back and forth with the server. Unfortunately I cannot find out a way to disable or limit data usage of ANY app on the device, let alone the stock bloat apps. The ROM of the device does not allow me to get into those settings. So I've come to you for help. How on earth can I stop these apps from syncing constantly? Would the app Doze do the trick? Or is that for Android 6.0+? I can't tell what base version of Android this thing is on but it says Fire OS 4.5.5.2. Doze? Greenify? I dunno. Help please [link] [comments] |
