The HP Touchpad will never die. Posted: 09 Dec 2016 11:07 AM PST Today I installed Nougat on my 2011 HP touchpad, and it's running like a charm. For being almost 6 years old (and not even shipping with android), this thing holds up rather well. I just wanted to post this to show that people who make custom roms and help keep old devices alive are amazing at what they do, and deserve some of the credit to what makes android so amazing. I bought this thing off a friend for $80 a year ago, and have been tinkering with it since. With 7.0 installed, this device feels new almost. There's honestly not much lag to speak of, it just feels like a year old flagship device at this point. My HTC10 doesn't have Nougat yet, but the Touchpad runs nearly as well as my 10 does on 6.0.1 I haven't tried any super intensive games but i'm sure they're probably not going to perform amazing. Either way, I just wanted to express my surprise and happiness. Or something like that. [link] [comments]
Moto Z fingerprint sensor behavior should be standard on every phone Posted: 09 Dec 2016 09:49 AM PST I have been using a Moto Z Play for a week now, and the phone's fingerprint scanner behavior has made using the device a more enjoyable experience. It's very simple: You can turn the display on AND off by touching the FP scanner. This eliminates the need to use the power button, and the whole unlock/use/lock workflow becomes more streamlined and intuitive. You activate and deactivate the screen with the same button, located where your thumb naturally rests. At first I thought it was so stupid of Moto/Lenovo to use a front-facing fingerprint scanner which does not work as a home button (hence the need for a software home button). But after using the phone for a few days, I realized this was in fact a brilliant idea. No need to reach for the power button to lock the display when my phone is on a surface. Also the FP scanner can be easily configured with a 3rd party app to double as a home button and only lock the device when you are at your home screen (no app is running in foreground). Posted: 09 Dec 2016 09:02 AM PST Hey /r/Android, Back in the days of before lollipop all lockscreens did was show a clock and maybe some widgets. Back then you had several lockscreen apps which all had their own benefits. Ever since lollipop, Android, and basically all versions of it, started showing notifications on the lockscreen. Personally I haven't touched a lockscreen app since lollipop came to my phone. I really can't miss the ability to check my notifications on my lockscreen. What's your opinion on this? Did you use a lockscreen app back in the days and/or do you still use one now? I would love to hear your opinion. Peace✌️ [link] [comments]

[Dev] Color Glide - a unique and puzzling game - Should I continue to make games? Posted: 09 Dec 2016 03:04 PM PST So, my brother and I have been making games for about 10 years now and this is something that we would really like to do for the rest of our lives. We're about to graduate from college and we really need to decide if we should keep pursuing our dream or just get a desk job like everyone else we know. This is something that we have passion for and we put a lot of effort into, but I just don't see it working out for us because the market is so flooded with knock offs and copy-cats making it hard for original games to fully shine. My brother and I put a lot hours and passion into this one, please let us know what you think. Color Glide on Google Play (Free) Should we continue making games? What kind of game would the community like to see? The fact that we have made negative dollars for our games as an indie developer really makes you question things like: Should I get into game development? Do you need a publisher these days? Why do they even allow indie devs if they don't get any recognition? We're happy to answer any questions you have, we actually already updated the game based on feedback that we received so far, thank you all for reading! Matt and Steve [link] [comments]
