Chrome opens two tabs every time I click a link from another app. Posted: 11 Dec 2016 09:36 AM PST It's driving me nuts. This happens in my Reddit app (sync), in Feedly, anywhere I click a link that opens the browser. Chrome opens the link like normal, but if I look at the other tabs, it also created a second, identical tab in the background. Anybody know why this is happening???? EDIT: it doesn't happen when opening links from my Google Now feed. I'm on stock nougat 7.0, Nexus 6, rooted, with Franco kernel [link] [comments] |
Google Pixel XL- Youtube volume fluctuates and will randomly pause video. Posted: 11 Dec 2016 01:27 PM PST Sometimes when listening to a Youtube video, the volume will decrease to around 25 percent, and then increase up to the volume I have it at. I have tried turning down the volume, clearing cache, and reinstalling the Youtube app to remedy this problem. This also happened on my Note 4 while I had it. None of these fixes worked. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Beginnner's Guide to Android OS Posted: 11 Dec 2016 03:39 PM PST I've just switched to Android (Samsun S7) after 6 years of iPhones. I really like the phone but I am feeling a bit overwhelmed with the customisation element in that I do not know where to start. I like certain themes but do I need to just buy ones I like? I've noticed people discussing Nova Launcher - what is the launcher and what can I do with it? Any help at all would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Stolen Devices Disappeared from Android Device Manager After More Than Two Months. Why? Posted: 11 Dec 2016 01:45 PM PST My wife's phone and tablet were stolen in late September. I would periodically check the Android Device Manager to see if they showed up (they never did). I logged in today, however, and saw that neither device was present in her list of devices. Both devices had passcodes. I told the Android Device Manager to wipe the devices and display a message saying that the devices were stolen if they ever came back online. I also logged both devices out of their Google account (and changed the password on the account). I have read that the device will no longer appear in the Android Device Manager if the thief logs out of the account. If they could not get past the passcode screen, how would they actually log out of the account? I realize they could flash the devices and simply login to another account, but how would the device even know about the previous account so that it could "log out" of the old one? Also, I believe at least one device was running a new enough version of Android that the thieves would have needed the Google password to even flash it. Do devices just disappear from the device manager if they do not show up after a certain period of time? Sorry if any of these questions seem a bit basic, but I am not real familiar with the Android way of doing things. [link] [comments] |
my phone is behaving weirdly in various ways Posted: 11 Dec 2016 11:24 AM PST Hi guys! Not just one issue, though I'm guessing they're related. I'm running Lollipop on a GS5. 1/ So the main problem is that my picture albums have gotten screwed up. For example I have an album called Books, which should have about 70 pix in it, has just 1. Another album called Social Media should also have about 70 pix in it, has 9, and 6 of those are just a blank screen. Not sure what happened with them. On some of those blank screens I see a kind of error message ie the icon of a picture with an exclamation mark. 2/ I believe there's some way I can see all pix, not just all pix in one folder, but cant figure out how to do that. Anyone? Maybe from that I can see if the other pix are still there just miscategorized? 3/ Btw is there some kind of backing up I should be doing? Is there a done process for that? 4/ The other much smaller issue I'm having is I now see random icons on my screen. On my last screen for example I see an android icon with the label 'com.onevcat.uniwebview...' WTF??? Another android icon with the label 'com.amazon.mShop.hom...' HUH?? And there's a Cineplex app that its also showing the Android icon for some reason (the green alien). Can anyone help? [link] [comments] |
How fast does a battery degrade? Posted: 11 Dec 2016 08:54 AM PST So, I use 2 phones and I like to switch between them often. Now, say I leave 1 phone aside turned off for a week/2 weeks, does the battery start to degrade? Or am I worried for nothing? [link] [comments] |

Galaxy S6 stock 6.0.1 H3G UK. Is there a way to exclude an app from Power Saving mode? Posted: 11 Dec 2016 03:40 PM PST I use a couple of encrypted VPN apps, openVPN and PIA. They work great when Power Saving is off but when Power Saving is on and the app is not on screen they block all data. The apps setup a VPN in the devices connection settings but the app itself must do the encryption, so when the app is not on the screen, Power Saving freezes the app effectively blocking all data. I can't find away of selectively removing these apps from power saving but I need some power saving on the S6 to make the battery last the day. any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
Rooting my droid for the first time. Posted: 11 Dec 2016 03:27 PM PST I've been interested in rooting my droid for a while now. I was wondering if I root my phone (Galaxy s7 edge) can I make the snapchat app better? I hate how the regular version of snapchat on droid has weird emoji's and doesn't use my camera to it's full potential can rooting my device fix this? I will use King Root to root my device. This also isn't the only reason for rooting my device. [link] [comments] |
Pixel financing through Google question Posted: 11 Dec 2016 03:19 PM PST Hey all, hopefully this is relevant here. This seemed a better spot than r/android to post. I'm basically sold on the Pixel, and I'm going to be doing it financed through the Google store. For anyone else who has gone through this process, when I select a 128gb model with the added warranty, it comes to $848, or $35.33/month according to the store page. However, when I go to apply for the financing, it shows an APR of 29.99%, except in cases of "equal pay financing" that gets you a 0% APR. All that to say, Pixel owners who are financing through the store, what are you actually paying per month on the phone? Does the Pixel qualify for 0% APR, or is the $35.33/month that Google quotes completely inaccurate? [link] [comments] |

Battery drains fast at work- not anywhere else (am using phone if anything less at work) Posted: 11 Dec 2016 03:10 PM PST The battery drain stops when I disable wi-fi at work so it seems this is the issue. Why might simply being connected to wi-fi cause battery to drain so much? Have samsung s6 with up to date software. [link] [comments] |
How to move apps to SD Card on 6.0 Marshmallow? Posted: 11 Dec 2016 10:35 AM PST My old phone died (thanks Bought a new phone and bought a 128gb SD Card so I could place all media on SD card. That way if my phone dies I can still access my SD Card. If I format as adoptable / internal storage, if the phone dies I cannot access the data on the SD card. So I formatted as a regular SD Card. I can't seem to find the option to move apps to SD Card to protect my data. Is it hidden? Do I need root? I was hoping not to bother with root, kernels, roms etc as they always seems to fix one problem and cause three more. I followed this guide: http://droidlessons.com/how-to-move-apps-to-the-sd-card-in-android-6-0-marshmallow/ but the options are not visible to me. halp plz, am noob Moto G4 Plus, if it matters [link] [comments] |
Why does Google Play Services need the microphone to work properly? Posted: 11 Dec 2016 02:20 PM PST So recently I was looking through the permissions that Play Services require and I revoked the microphone permissions. Immediately after that it sent me a warning that it would not work properly if it didn't have access to microphone, but why does it need it? [link] [comments] |
Rooting T-mobile Galaxy j7 proving to be incredibly difficult. Any help out there? Posted: 11 Dec 2016 02:09 PM PST I have been trying to root this damn phone and I am so unsuccessful. Posted: 11 Dec 2016 01:46 PM PST I haven't found much about it on the web, but if i root my phone (Redmi Note 3 Pro) i'm most likely to lose my warranty. My question is, is it possible to unroot my phone, and it wont be possible to find out i rooted my phone before, to get back the warranty in case my screen gets cracked or something internal but not the system or the OS? (By internal i mean the charging plug or such stopped working, but if something is going to happen its probably cracking my screen. Lets hope i wont find myself with a cracked screen :P) Anyway, the reason i want to root my phone is to change the font, and the emoji's. I am used to the iOS 10 emojis and i cant look at those 'thumb's with faces' i call em. (Even other emoji's which look normaller is ok XD) And changing the font is a bit of a problem for me because i bought the phone with my mother language installed. I have no clue in this things since i just moved from apple to android and im still trying to understand whats standing where and such. Thanks for wasting the time with this 'letter', and trying to help me. [link] [comments] |
Problems with email, autocorrect, and suggested words. Posted: 11 Dec 2016 01:35 PM PST just switched from apple to Android, using an s7 edge. Also just switched from Verizon to sprint if that matters. Please help!
Am I maybe seeing this based on other people's recent emails that are on the same sprint account with me on a different line? I'm using a local WiFi at my work, could that be a reason?
Advice? [link] [comments] |
Phone instantly locks after turning off screen, even with this setting disabled. Posted: 11 Dec 2016 01:27 PM PST This issue seemed to have occurred right after the last update. When I shut off the screen with the power button, regardless if it's been 5 minutes or 0.5 seconds, it becomes locked. I have check the OS settings and specifically made sure this feature was disabled. I only have one AVS/security app installed, and I checked there to ensure it wasn't the cause as well. I suppose it's possible that there may be a setting I'm overlooking, but I haven't made any real changes to it in quite some time. Even the last app I installed was ~4 months ago. My knowledge of mobile operating systems is somewhat limited, so as far as attempting to resolve the issue, I'm not quite sure on how to start, excluding just restarting my phone or uninstalling recent apps. Since it was a very recent update, have any of you experienced this issue as well? Even if you haven't, I'd love to hear some theories on how to resolve it. I know I can revert to factory settings which may help, but I wanted to keep that as a sort of last resort. Thanks in advance, friendly internet humans! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 11 Dec 2016 01:18 PM PST Hello! So on Friday I dropped my S6. It landed on its edge and the screen started flickering. After a long day of diagnostics (including following an iFixIt teardown guide forwards and backwards), I have narrowed it down to an issue with the connector between the mainboard and the LCD. Nevertheless, I would be looking at buying a new LCD and right now the phone is out of commission. I am facing the predicament of repairing my S6 or just buying a new phone. I have an iPhone 5c and a One M8 just laying around, so in the meantime I will be switching between the two of them (5c atm), but I don't want to turn one of those into a new permanent daily driver. Now for the fun part; my S6 is brand new, five months into contract with Verizon (US) and I have no plan insurance. I am unsure what to do solely because of this. if I had it paid off, it wouldn't be that big of a deal, but I don't really fancy paying monthy for a broken phone for the next year and a half. If there is a way to terminate and return the phone I would be down with that, but it is a part of a family plan (5 lines of 8GB shared + 10GB Bonus data per contract length) so I don't know if that is allowed. I would like to spend no more than $400 on this whole ordeal. A quick google search showed that any professional repair to the phone would cost upwards of $250, but at that point I would almost rather save $100 more and buy a new phone thats on-par, if not better than the S6 (the Axon 7 looks nice to me). The other option would be to do the repair myself, but if I mess up anything, i'm down another part and I am not sure if I want to risk that. I guess what I'm really asking for is your opinion. What do you think I should do? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 11 Dec 2016 07:54 AM PST So I'm living in my dorm room with terrible service. I've enabled wifi and hd calling on my phone to try to get around that, but it'll sometimes detect a sliver of service and opt to use that, which will inevitably drop. Is there anyway that I can set my phone to defer to wifi calling based on my location? As in preset certain spots on the gps where it will turn off cellular service, but without totally shutting the outside world off? Thanks for the help [link] [comments] |
Managing Google Contacts on Fire HD 8? Posted: 11 Dec 2016 12:37 PM PST I'm preparing a Christmas gift for an old man who doesn't understand technology, so I'm setting him up from nothing (including no email) on an Amazon Fire HD 8 so he can chat with and follow family on social media. I managed to get the play store installed and have a bunch of standard Android apps installed but I'm having trouble figuring out a way to manage (including add) Google contacts. There's a contacts app that Google makes but it's only available for phones. There's a contacts app that comes with the Fire hd 8 but it doesn't integrate with Hangouts or Gmail, making it useless. I can go to contacts.google.com with a browser and set things up manually but I'd like for the recipient to be able to manage contacts as well without needing to open a browser and navigate to a site. Anyone know of an app or secret trick to managing contacts on a tablet? [link] [comments] |
Blank box when tapping notification. Posted: 11 Dec 2016 04:23 PM PST When I tap a notification on my lock screen it shrinks, (top part of the screen) a cloudy grayed out blank box appears below the text notifications takes about 2/3's of the screen. The grayed out blank box does nothing, says nothing, doesn't appear to offer any functionality. What is supposed to be there? If I tap on the shrunken notification the blank box goes away. I must be missing something because there would make no sense to have a box open up and nothing. It is the stock lockscreen and I'm using Launcher 8 WP style. Thanks [link] [comments] |
How can I manually move a file to /storage/emulated/0? Posted: 11 Dec 2016 12:28 PM PST Not sure if this is the right sub to ask this question in, but I'm trying to set up an app (that I didn't make) that needs a specific txt to be in /storage/emulated/0. I've been googling around, and it looks like it's just a shortcut to a different part of Android's file system. How can I manually move a file to /storage/emulated/0? Thanks in advance.
