Experiences of some shooters (FPS and not) played while testing the nvidia shield gamepad mapper

Posted: 19 Sep 2016 04:08 PM PDT

Related post about the nvidia shield k1 and the nvidia shield controller.

I repeat my apologies also here: I apologize for the errors, my English is not that great and I have to proofread a bit more to raise the clarity of the sentences and the fluidity of the text.

I often search in /r/androidgaming reviews of this or that shooter, and I get mostly short comments that do not give me an idea of it. The best ideas is of course to try yourself or to judge checking videos about the gameplay.

Anyway, here are my experiences of games that requires to aim at things to destroy them.

  • World of tanks blitz (ok)

    • Tanks skirmishes (not really realistic) with models from second world war, prototypes and tanks up to the 1960.
    • only online multiplayer.
    • Slow paced, mostly sniper like.
    • dozens of maps, to unlock with different levels of tanks.
    • Each game lasts around 7 minutes
    • Requires positional tactic.
    • It is slightly pay to win.
    • There are plenty of players online.
    • During a game one is quite engaged and tracking an enemy is not trivial.
    • It requires a lot of time (or money) to master all the tanks and all the other players.
    • It is designed also to be a game for serious competion. The hud in game is quite clear and there is not spam of notifications that distract from the game.
    • great statistic collection for each player.
    • great community with advanced tips.
    • not so much advertisement while in the menu.
    • Does not support the nvidia shield controller completely.
    • The graphics is quite great for a mobile game.
    • support teams of players.
    • the choice of the server is mostly not existent.
  • Blitz brigade (ok)

    • FPS similar to the, unfortunately not anymore existing, battlefield heroes.
    • mostly online multiplayer, there are offline levels.
    • It requires time (or money) to unlock all the possible weapons and upgrades.
    • In theory the team should coordinate according to the soldier classes that can help each other. In practice no one does it.
    • there are 4 or 5 modes and 4 or 5 maps.
    • quite a lot of advertisement while in the menu.
    • Depending on the mode, the pace of the game can be quite hectic
    • It seems to have enough players online
    • During a game one is quite engaged and tracking an enemy is not trivial.
    • definitely pay to win.
    • statistics are minimal.
    • The spam of notifications (about like everything that happens in game) is too high. It is more for casual gaming.
    • The nvidia shield controller works very well through the nvidia game mapper.
    • The graphics is quite great for a mobile game.
    • support teams of players.
    • the choice of the server is minimal.
  • Pixel gun 3d (personally the best online FPS tried so far)

    • FPS, has no classes (no medics for example), the graphics is like minecraft but the maps, the textures and so on are very different and in general the feeling is pleasant.
    • mostly online multiplayer, there are offline levels.
    • there are dozens of very interesting maps and several modes of play, even duel.
    • It requires time (or money) to unlock all the possible weapons and upgrades.
    • the advertisement is minimal.
    • It seems to have enough players online
    • Games are always quite fast paced
    • definitely pay to win.
    • statistics are minimal.
    • During a game one is quite engaged and tracking an enemy is a challenge.
    • It is designed also to be a game for serious competion. The hud in game is quite clear and there is not spam of notifications that distract from the game.
    • Does not support the nvidia shield controller properly. Actually I hope in an update, then I would play only this game as shooter with the controller.
    • The graphic is simple, although the amount of objects in the map is quite high, so almost every device should be able to run it.
    • support teams of players.
    • the choice of the server is minimal.
  • Block strike (not bad!)

    • FPS, similar to Pixel gun 3d. Graphics textures are way more simple so the game is heavily focused on the combat side, there are no eye candy views around.
    • There are a lot of game modes.
    • There are a lot of maps, that are gigantic sometimes.
    • only online multiplayer.
    • The game sessions are serious, no fancy stuff, one concentrates on the enemy. Also the recoil of the weapons is quite realistic.
    • It seems to have enough players online.
    • the choice of the server is complete
    • the advertisement is acceptable.
    • great statistic collection for each player.
    • support teams of players.
    • It requires time (or money) to unlock all the possible weapons and upgrades.
    • Games are always quite fast paced
    • Does not support the nvidia shield controller completely.
  • Neon shadown (when one wants to focus on pure aim)

    • FPS. Very simple online, focused on the game.
    • single player and online multiplayer.
    • the advertisement is minimal.
    • 3 maps, 3 gamemodes online, no team modes always free for all.
    • no pay to win. One has all the possibility on the map, like the other players.
    • It seems to have enough players online.
    • the choice of the server is mostly not existent.
    • The graphics is quite great for a mobile game.
    • Does not support the nvidia shield controller completely.
    • no statistics.
    • The game sessions are serious, no fancy stuff, one concentrates on the enemy.
    • Games are always quite fast paced.
    • During a game one is quite engaged and tracking an enemy is a challenge.
  • Pew pew (I love this)

    • shooter, like gridwars for windows PC
    • no pay to win
    • only local
    • one has a little ship and has to shoot dangerous blocks that appears in quantity
    • there are 5 or more game modes
    • it is great to train the use of virtual joystics or analog sticks on the controller.
    • Works well with the nvidia shield controller.
    • please play the mode "dogde this"

  • Coming soon through edits:
    • Modern combat 5 ( I would like to try also MC3 and MC4 but, well, I do not know if there are enough players online left)
    • NOVA 3 : I saw the gameplay on youtube and it is not appealing me. Too big jumps.
    • Call of mini infinity : it crashes on my shield, otherwise the gameplay seems engaging, I hope in an update.
    • If you have suggestions, let me know! (I actually want to decide which game I should select to play on the long run. For now it is Blitz Brigade unfortunately)

Circle Affinity is a fun endless platformer that only has ~50 downloads and deserves more attention

Posted: 19 Sep 2016 05:59 AM PDT

Circle Affinity is the free sorta-demo sorta-spin-off to Circa Infinity, which basically plays like an endless VVVVVV on a circle. It shares some other similarities with it too - it nails the same strange style through its art and animations/sound design, and the run/jump gameplay is very similar. Despite the controls being so simple, I'm having a lot of fun with it and it's better than I would have imagined.

I just noticed that the leaderboards are a barren wasteland, and I have a really weak score that's putting me in 4th worldwide. Some competition on there would be nice, so try it out and see if you like it!

Don't Starve Android Beta question...

Posted: 19 Sep 2016 07:06 AM PDT

Curious to those who've gotten in on the Beta how it plays on a phablet-sized phone?

Missed out on the beta initially, but thought about snagging it after the fact if it's not too buggy in current form. I know they plan on having it out soon, but this is one of my favorite games, so waiting has been tough lol

On that note, anyone have similar recommendations for Android? Really love survival games of this nature, actually played my ps4 version on the Note with the PS app for ages.

Warspear Online MMO Huge Balancing Update Incoming!

Posted: 19 Sep 2016 04:11 AM PDT

Hello everyone, this is mainly for ex-Warspear players who left because they didn't like how Bladedancers ruled the game, or how Mage was severely underpowered in PvP. Changes are coming soon! (next few days) You can read the full forum post here

Most of these changes have been centered around buffs/debuffs and stuns, with several classes considered "weaker" in PvP receiving new awesome skills to make them much more formidable.

Notes to redditors not experienced with Warspear ->

  • Expert skills can be learned by a player after he/she attains level 18, before that he/she can only use a fixed set of 5 skills.
  • PvP is a major part of Warspear - players can sign up for arena fights using arena tickets (you get one every hour) War events are also held every week where the two alliances (two factions in each alliance) fight each other for territory on certain parts of the map.
  • There's also trading, crafting, questing, dungeons, guilds and many others
  • Limited grinding - no exp is gained for killing stuff, only quests award exp! However many quests are about kill x and give y to z, so.
  • Be aware that IAPs are offered and top-tier PvP is rather p2w, however it is perfectly possible to enjoy the game without paying a cent. Apparently one top PvPer on the US server didn't pay anything, but he probably spent a lot of time playing. Seriously, a LOT.

Anyway, some notable changes include:

  • Mages receive a new expert skill - "Ennoblement" which makes them dismiss all negative effects including control effects (stuns) and allows to ignore them for a certain period of time.

  • Rangers receive a new expert skill - "Bow Kick" which hits the target and stuns it.

  • Priests receive a new expert skill - "Exacting Burden" which slowly decreases target speed for 5 seconds. If the "Armistice" skill is used on a target after casting "Exacting Burden", the target will be stunned (this is known as a combo stun)

  • Barbarians receive a new expert skill - "Barbarian's Nature" which allows the Barbarian to ignore stuns and debuffs for some time after being cast.

Less-notable skill additions are:

  • Warlocks get a combo stun
  • Paladin gets a defense buff spell that is cast on all party members
  • Rogue get a skill which reduces opponent defense
  • Necromancers, Death Knight, Bladedancer, Shaman get new buff expert skills
  • Druid gets a heal spell that will turn all damage received into health points

Enjoy!

I should also add that this is a 2d scroller type of MMO with a slightly traditional feel; however this allows for smoother gameplay and less lag - important for a game with lots of PvP.

If this post was against the sub rules pls let me know, I will delete it asap.

Blaster Run by RhinBoost Games [Combines shooter mechanics with the endless runner genre]

Looking for a spcae battle app i used to have.

Posted: 19 Sep 2016 03:21 PM PDT

I had a game on my phone like a good year or two ago where you bought ships and they were broken down into grids and you would design the ship by placing armor, weopons, shields, and engines in the grid of the ship and then battle other player designed ships for money. They battles would go on autopilot, so it would all be down to luck and who had the better designed ship. Can not for the life of me remember the name of it. If it helps, there were like 3 types of weopons, lazers(would pass through shields), rockets (did area damage), and your basic bullets firing guns. There were also bigger ship designs that would come with smaller ships, and you could deck them out as well.
