Is it mandatory to mention third party libraries used in my android app? Posted: 03 Sep 2016 04:22 AM PDT I am about to launch my first independent android app shortly so I was making sure I cover everything. I have seen that many android apps have a license dialog mentioning the third party libraries etc that they used in their app. Is it mandatory to include this ? Thanks ! [link] [comments] |

What would one need to build AOSP from source to a new device? Posted: 03 Sep 2016 12:04 PM PDT I have a Xperia T3 (D5106) and would like to build from source for it. Sony only has the build files for the D5103 model, but it doesn't work on D5106 (I tried and got a boot loop). Since their hardwares are the same (the only actual difference according com Sony's White Paper is the supported broadband), I'm guessing I could use at least some of what Sony already provides, but would have to work further. Does anybody have any useful resource to recommend me? I'm trying to figure out which files I'd have to change, and generally how to proceed. I have no problems regarding the getting the source and building for that matter. I'm just trying to figure out how to adapt it to my phone. Thanks guys! [link] [comments] |

Google Play Store alternatives? Posted: 03 Sep 2016 07:44 AM PDT I've developed a small railway schedule app. I may not be able to pay for a Dev account on Google Play. What other free app store alternatives do I have? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 Sep 2016 06:18 PM PDT Hey everyone, I am about to graduate and want to pursue a career as an Android Developer. Lately I have been getting responses back from companies explaining that I just don't have the experience required for the job position of Jr. Android Developer. I am about to graduate with a bachelors degree in Mobile Development which covers both iOS and Android extensively. I have contributed towards several apps on the Google Play store and one app on the App Store. So I guess my question is, how do I gain that bit of experience to get my foot in the door? Do I pump out some apps to deploy, contribute to open source projects, or work on my GitHub overall? Thank you in advance for any advice, it's greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |

MvvmCross Dreams 3.0.0 - Now as VS template! Posted: 03 Sep 2016 10:09 AM PDT Link 3.0.0: https://github.com/mgj/MvvmCross-Dreams Now available as Visual Studio project template! MvvmCross DREAMS is an opinionated take on how to make an MvvmCross app. You can clone DREAMS, rename the application label and bundle identifier and be productive in minutes. No more worrying about naming conventions, PCL profiles, android support dependencies or which logging framework to use. DREAMS is now available as a project template to make it even easier for you to get up and running as fast as possible. Just follow these steps:
If for some reason you cannot find MvvmCross DREAMS directly in visual studio, manual install is possible: https://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/19537bba-c65f-4fb0-b256-83eb7b493c1c [link] [comments] |
Touch screen laptop with emulator? Posted: 03 Sep 2016 08:27 AM PDT Has anyone used a touchscreen laptop as an Android Studio development box? If so does the touch screen work with the Android emulator pretty much like a device does? Swipe, pinch to zoom, scrolling etc? Trying to decide if it is something I should consider for my upcoming laptop purchase. Going to get 16GB minimum, 15" min screen size, like a 512GB SSD as I know the 256 GB drive in my work computer is nearly full. [link] [comments] |
I need an app icon/banner designed for my first app. Posted: 03 Sep 2016 02:45 PM PDT I was wondering if anyone knew how to get a simple free icon for my app that has to do with strength and conditioning. If I remember, a while ago I saw a post on here about a guy that designs them for free, and posted that he would do them for free if you asked. If anyone knows what I'm talking about please let me know! [link] [comments] |

Can I create an unofficial client for a browser-based strategy game? Posted: 03 Sep 2016 01:22 PM PDT Hello, androiddev I'm playing a game that's pretty much like travian. This game doesn't have an Android client so I decided to make one for myself. The game has no animations, it's text-based. I would need to receive data (resources, army units, building levels, battle raports etc.) and I would need to send input (increasing building level, training army, attacking other villages etc.). I kind of know the basics of Android developing and I feel comfortable with Java. But how hard would it be to get and send data? I don't need the game's style and layout because I would like to create my own compact layouts and context menus. If this is possible, then how should I approach it? [link] [comments] |
Google Analytics Event Naming Conventions Posted: 03 Sep 2016 12:11 PM PDT Can anyone explain the difference between event : category , action, label, value in Google Analytics (https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/android/v4/events)? I feel like there is no real consensus on which fields should be set and what each field actually represents. Seems like some developers use these fields interchangeably. If i have a button with the text [link] [comments] |
RecyclerView items binding directly from XML layout Posted: 03 Sep 2016 03:48 AM PDT I would like to share my small MVVM helper library. It allows you to bind recycler view items directly from XML, while keeping the view model clean and tidy. I'd really appreciate your feedback. Contributions are more than welcome. Anyone has two NFC devices to test an app that I made? Posted: 03 Sep 2016 10:16 AM PDT I have built a very basic app to send and receive a string via NFC. Now the problem is I don't have any NFC enabled device, and my friend has only one. So, I was thinking if someone has two NFC devices, so that he or she can test if the app works or not? The app uses only the NFC permission, nothing else( so no ads or anything fishy will happen). Also, is it possible to fake NFC (for testing purposes maybe in the emulator)? Couldn't find anything in Google. [link] [comments] |

What have you done to increase downloads of you app? Any advice? Posted: 03 Sep 2016 01:28 AM PDT Hey guys! I published my app in Google Play Store last week but right now there are nearly zero daily downloads. Yeeea! Can you give me any advice on marketing activities? What have you done to get initial downloads? My budget is pretty small, so I can't buy any paid campaigns. I made a reddit post, a 9gag post and offered promo codes for free. There were some downloads and the feedback was pretty good but in the next days there are zero downloads again. How important is the app description? I made a short, nice-to-read description which contains basic keywords. Should I make a longer one which is more ASO-friendly? What worked for you? I also wrote emails to some reviewers, but right now nobody seems to be interested. I don't want to spam everywhere in the internet because it's annoying as fuck. I would love to hear your experiences and how you got downloads for your apps! I have the feeling that there is no natural traffic through app store, so something must be wrong. Thank you!
