Looking into Android phones (as an iOS user for 4+ years) and could use some recommendations Posted: 10 Sep 2016 05:28 AM PDT Hi! So this recent iPhone 7 launch has left me super disappointed. Problem is, I'm also a huge smartphone junkie, and I really love having a new toy to use every year. So, since I can't justify getting the iPhone 7, I'm wondering what the current state of android is in terms of what the flagships are. All I know about is Samsung, but I'm open to other devices. What do people recommend? Which company has the current phone that offers vanilla android? Also, side note; does anyone know if there's a way to forward iMessages to an android phone? I appreciate it in advance. Thanks for any and all help. Edit: I appreciate everyone being so nice! :) [link] [comments] |
Best way to wirelessly pair a Wiimote to a phone these days? Posted: 10 Sep 2016 11:49 AM PDT I remember it being really simple a few years back... All the old apps seem to have been yanked from the store. What's the method for doing it these days? [link] [comments] |
Did they remove the "top new paid" and "top new free" categories from games on the Play Store? Posted: 10 Sep 2016 02:24 PM PDT This is how I always searched for new games, so I wasn't having to weed through hundreds of games that have been out for years or were showing up in "new" because a five-year-old game had recently received an update. Lock screen security bypass through Quick Settings Posted: 10 Sep 2016 12:55 PM PDT I have a Galaxy S3 running CyanogenMod 13 nightly (Marshmallow), and I'm testing security and loss/theft procedure. I have noticed that the Quick Settings are still available from the lock screen, and that I can toggle data, wifi and airplane mode without entering my password. I tried locking my phone from Android Device Manager, and when I toggle Airplane Mode from the quick settings, I can no longer locate the device. Is there any way of disabling access to Quick Settings while the phone is locked, or requesting the password for these options? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Sep 2016 03:05 PM PDT So my Note 5 (Rooted, Dr Ketan rom) is being difficult.. The title describes everything, but here's a pic of a typical mornings battery stats.. http://i.imgur.com/TcIxSwW.png Do you guys reckon another new battery may solve this or is there any possible way that this could be a different issue? [Help] Android Device Manager Troubles Posted: 10 Sep 2016 12:46 PM PDT Good Afternoon, Straight to the point, I have several Google Nexus devices and two Google accounts. The original Google account is my primary, I had to create an additional Google account a year or so back for Project Fi so I could keep my Google Voice number. Fast forward to today, all of my Android Devices are showing up In Android Device Manager under the secondary account. I never "moved" these, so not sure how this happened. I would like to get the devices registered back to the original primary Google account. Not sure if this helps, but Google Play Store shows all of the devices on the primary account, just not Android Device Manager. This is becoming an issue since the Android Device Manager and Android.com/Beta use the same system. Thanks for the help! [link] [comments] |
Looking for a way to make a custom ringtone plan Posted: 10 Sep 2016 02:55 PM PDT Ok so I have a Galaxy S6 Active and currently have some unique ringtones for a different people and different apps, but what I am looking to do is find a way to have a specific ringtone (Mario's coin sound) and then after 100 messages have a one time ringtone (Mario coin level up). Then have it go back to the original ringtone. Any ideas/suggestions would be helpful. (Hopefully I posted this in the right sub) [link] [comments] |
Is it possible to unlock directly to the notification drawer. Posted: 10 Sep 2016 12:30 PM PDT Hi, I have a Nexus 5X with Nougat. I don't like to show notifications on my lockscreen. So when I get a notification, I unlock the phone and manually open the notification drawer. I would love if my phone would automatically open the notification drawer when I unlock it if I have a new notification. If there is no new notification, it should not open the notification drawer. Is it possible to do that with android 7.0? Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Can someone guide me to the best ROM for the LG G3 LS990? Posted: 10 Sep 2016 12:05 PM PDT So I am pretty disappointed that the LG G3 LS990 only comes out of the box with KK and can only go to Lollipop as per the official support. I am considering refunding the phone and buying something else, but if there is a ROM that is on Marshmallow and is actually being used by someone. I might actually consider keeping the phone. Google is giving me plenty of options for ROM's but I want to hear from you guys which is the best ROM to install and if possible have a helping hand? This is my first really good phone in terms of good hardware. So please be gentle with me :( [link] [comments] |
Boot loop on Samsung Galaxy J3 (6) there a way to take files off/back up data before factory reset? Posted: 10 Sep 2016 01:49 PM PDT Unfortunately my phone's caught in a bootloop. I failed to back up all of my photos, and I also failed to put them on an SD Card. Therefore they are trapped in the phone's HDD. I would like to know if I could extract the files before doing a factory reset. Background:
Phone status:
I had read similar threads from 2012 where users said that it was not possible to extract files from a bootlooped phone. I attempted to use ADB Backup while Odin3 detected the phone, but ADP backup doesn't seem to detect the phone. Is there a way to extract files and data before I do a factory reset, or are they ll doomed? [link] [comments] |
Can someone give me some hints as to how to transfer files to my SD card? Posted: 10 Sep 2016 01:30 PM PDT I hope this is an acceptable post for this sub. If not, please let me know where a better one is. I posted this to r/asus last week and didn't get an answer, and my googling suggests that this is more an android issue than an Asus one anyway, so... I recently bought an Asus transformer pad and had the guy at the store install an sd card for me (such is my level of competence). The pad registers the sd card as existing and I can mount and unmount it just fine. But whenever I try to move files--pdfs and docs, not apps--it demands that I "must perform the certain steps to grant SD card access rights." My file manager app gives me instructions as to have to do so, but I can't. It wants me to click on "Select SD card" to grant access, but there is no option as to do that and then I get a notice that says "permission denied." If I go to a folder in my internal storage--say my "Stuff To Read" folder, the path says >root>sdcard>Stuff to Read. But when I go to look at my actual SD card (root>Removable>MicroSD), all it has is a folder marked Android and I can't transfer any files there. Everything I've googled seems to questions from folks who want to transfer apps, which I don't want to do, or people who are looking to do things to the root access whatevers and are then told that would void the warranty, which I also don't want to do. So, before I have to take it back to the store to get them to look at it, are there any suggestions? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Note 7 - Can't delete photos in any way Posted: 10 Sep 2016 10:50 AM PDT So I was able to delete photos even using QuickPic up until a couple days ago. Now nothing can delete them - not Samsung's native My Files, Quickpic, ES File Explorer, nothing. In most of the programs I get an error message saying it can't be done. In the native Gallery app it looks like it's doing it but they just reappear They are not in my Google Photos - I don't even know how to activate that feature on Note 7, it's not one of the changeable sync options I'm aware of the whole thing with SD card access but I've always heard that native apps can still edit. Also, again, up until randomly a couple days ago QuickPic could also do it Appreciate any help [link] [comments] |
Help with icon packs in Action Launcher 3 Posted: 10 Sep 2016 04:14 PM PDT I couldn't find a more specific sub for this question, so apologies if this is the wrong place. Basically my issue is that anytime I set icons in AC3 some apps are left with the default icon, inside a grey circle. Even if I manually set an icon for one of these apps it stays the same. Even if I just had the default icon I'd be happy, but they always have this grey circle around them. I've fiddled with every setting I can find and can't seem to shake this issue. I've uploaded a screenshot showing what I mean. https://imgur.com/gallery/vTCAZ NHL and the 3 icons around it, along with Fantasy Sports are some apps that have this issue. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Sep 2016 03:39 PM PDT Hey guys. The battery in my S7 active fluctuates quite a bit. One day I'll have only 4 hrs of SOT, and then the next day i'll have almost 9 hrs of SOT. This is happening under the same conditions (brightness, apps used, ect...) Should I contact Samsung or AT&T first? And what should I say to them. I would rather get this replaced with a s7 edge or a g5 then get another active. [link] [comments] |
Note 4 freezing at lockscreen (probably a launcher problem) Posted: 10 Sep 2016 11:53 AM PDT I have gone through a fair bit of troubleshooting the past 3 days. It is a note 4 from AT&T and it is 2 years old. There are a few problems that I noticed and will try to be as thorough as possible trying to explain this.
I started troubleshooting this by doing a soft reset, clearing cache partition and then even doing a factory reset and having the phone do a fresh install without using a backup. I installed Nova Launcher right on top of TouchWiz and it seemed to work well because I did not turn the screen off. But then once I did it started lagging again. Up until last night it was horrible and I had constant crashed (not only on lockscreen but also in Snapchat and Hangouts), then I was able to update to Marshmallow as AT&T released an update and then it was only at lockscreen while working without lag and crashes once the screen is on. At first I thought this was some battery issue, but right now it seems to me that other launchers don't play nice with TouchWiz installed alongside it. Is there a way to wipe out TouchWiz on an unrooted phone and have Nova Launcher only? I am running out of ideas. Edit: To add to this I installed Nova Launcher again and there is a delay after locking and unlocking the screen. The screen is black for a second before anything appears. In TouchWiz it is instantaneous. [link] [comments] |
Phone Auto Factory Reset - Can I Get Data Back (LG G2 Verizon)? Posted: 10 Sep 2016 11:40 AM PDT I don't know why but I picked my phone up and it was in factory reset mode. I'm freaking out mainly over the ~100 recordings I lost. I do have recordings since last back a few months ago. I was JUST mentioning to my wife I need to back my recordings up and BAM. This happens. So any and all help appreciated. Thanks! Man... this just stinks. [link] [comments] |

Notification peeking not working! Posted: 10 Sep 2016 11:36 AM PDT I just got a ZTE ZMax Pro this week. I'm really enjoying the phone. However, my biggest issue is that none of the apps are giving me the "heads up" or "peeking" notification drop down like they should be. I'm so used to Hangouts messages giving me that heads up about who just messaged me and what the first part of the message was. I'd really love to get this functionality working again. I've tried rebooting a few times. I've gone into settings inside Hangouts. I've gone into System->Apps->Hangouts->Notifications and turned on/off the peeking switch. The most I've gotten was when I toggled the on/off switch and rebooted the phone. Then I saw that the phone was trying to give me the heads up (the top part of the screen went darkish like it would if the heads up was there) but nothing actually dropped down. Can anybody help?! Internal Device Storage being used by something Posted: 10 Sep 2016 10:43 AM PDT I have a Moto G 2nd Gen and im running 6.0 and something is taking up all of my phone's internal memory. Right now its allocation is 2.49 GB for the Os leaving 5.51 GBs for internal storage im currently using only 1.86 GBs for Apps and everything else is only taking 100MB of memory together. but yet it is saying i am using 5.36 GB of memory last time i checked 1.86 + 0.1 != 5.36GB T.T This has been happening ever since I got my phone, I typically mediate this by just factory default resetting it Does anyone know why this is happening? (Does anyone know what this problem is called?) *edit I am getting all this information from the Settings > Storage & USB > Internal Storage page [link] [comments] |
I can't backup, transfer or even find the efs folder even though my nexus 5x is fine Posted: 10 Sep 2016 10:35 AM PDT I have just bought a Nexus 5X, and as the title says, I can't backup or even find the efs folder even though my phone is fine, i really can't, I've tried terminal, busybox, adb, but nothing happens. I've tried to backup with TWRP but it gives me a TWRP folder with some files in it which I can't transfer to my PC. So, what should I do? When updating to drive it only saves 3 out of 5 files saying impossible to upload and when moving to pc it says ''unspecified error'' and transfers nothing. [link] [comments] |
Greenify shows an app that it is working all of the time. Posted: 10 Sep 2016 10:31 AM PDT When I open Greenify it shows that WPS Office is "working" all of the time and I cannot hibernate it. I've just opened the app (WPS) and didn't do anything with it and Greenify marked is as working from 1 hour. How can I make WPS Office show that it isn't working (change its state) so I can hibernate it? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Sep 2016 10:30 AM PDT I'm about to switch from iPhone to Android in the next month or two and was wondering if there's a way to get persistent reminders. I use iOS/macOS reminders to remind me to do recurring things like pay bills and submit my timesheet at work, and they stay on my lockscreen until I dismiss them (and they also constantly remind me on my Macbook). I also use the same reminders in Google Inbox/Calendar. I see these reminder notifications once, and then I see them whenever I check my email. Is there some way to pin Google Reminders the lock screen or home screen? Or am I gonna have to download a 3rd party app? I searched on here and saw people recommending a couple apps, Renotify and Collateral, but those don't seem to have the ability to schedule reminders (much less have them be recurring). No contacts created on my nexus 6p Posted: 10 Sep 2016 10:19 AM PDT Edit: no name contacts is what I mean. Can anyone identify why this is happening? Idk if I'm checking all my apps properly. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Apps will not stay disabled on Lollipop Posted: 10 Sep 2016 10:10 AM PDT Disabling system apps not working on Lollipop effectively. I am not rooted. Moto E 3rd gen. I disable Google Play Music and YouTube and they go back to the factory version, but then upgrade to the latest version and re enable themselves anyway! I have no use for these apps I use Rocket Player (because Google Play Music does not see m4a effectively) and Firefox (because it runs off of the SD card). [link] [comments] |
