Four(4) Hidden Treasures in Nougat(Android 7.0)

Excited to download Nougat? Once you get past the core new features like split screen mode and enhanced notifications, there’s a whole series of hidden features you can explore to tune up your phone. Here are four big ones to get you started.

1. “Clear all” button for apps.
In previous Android versions, once you tapped the overview button (the square at the bottom right of your screen), it brought up all of your open apps and you had to swipe through one by one to close them. But now, Nougat will let you close all those annoying apps at once. Press the overview button.
Then drag your notifications down and press “clear all” to shut them all down at once.

2. Emergency info screen and contacts.
Android Nougat comes with a valuable new feature that lets you input information in case of emergency. Once you input the info, anyone can access it in case of emergency even if the screen is locked.
You access it by clicking “users” in your main settings menu, and then tapping “emergency information.”
Once there, you’ll have two screens. On the first, you can enter a variety of information for emergencies, such as your blood type, medications you take and any allergies. A second screen also lets you list contacts in case of emergency.
Apple has made some version of an emergency contact input available since iOS 8 in 2014, but this is the first time this feature has come to Android natively.

3. System UI Tuner.

The System UI Tuner gives you even more power to customize your device. To enable it, swipe down from the top of your screen to get into your Quick Settings menu.
From there, press and hold the settings bar until it spins, and you’ll get a prompt to enable the System UI Tuner. From there, you can adjust what you want to see in your status bar at the very top of your screen and make adjustments to your phone’s Do Not Disturb settings. While Marshmallow also had a System UI Tuner, the new version in Nougat comes with an additional feature that lets you rank different types of notifications in order of importance.

4. Make any app work in split-screen mode.
A major problem with Nougat’s split-screen mode is that not all apps are automatically compatible. But fortunately, you can make any app work in multi-screen mode once you enable Developer Options on your phone.
Go to Settings and scroll down and tap “About Phone.” From there, scroll down until you see “Build Number”
Press and hold down “Build Number” seven times until you get a prompt on your screen saying you are now a developer. Now, go back to settings main and you’ll see “Developer Options” listed down toward the bottom.
At the bottom of Developer Options, you’ll see an option to make all activities resizable. Now you can use any app in split-screen mode on your phone or tablet.
One of the main benefits of Android is the ability to customize your device, and each of these hidden features should help you do just that.
