I get kind of stuck using apps that I've always used. This has its positives, like reliability and familiarity. However, it also has its negative like missing crazy changes in permissions or an app slowly getting bloated (I'm looking at you QuickPic). I sometimes stumble upon a new app I should be using instead of an old one because of threads in this sub. So, I'm wondering if there are older apps that I should be ditching for new ones (for example, I've recently switched from Facebook to Swipe, Messenger to Disa, and ES File Explorer to Solid Explorer). Are there other apps that I should be switching from/to?

I have never gotten a single opinion rewards survey, does anybody k ow why?

Posted: 09 Jun 2016 06:04 PM PDT

I wasn't 18 when I gave it access to my account. I've been 18 for months now, location history always on, I've traveled plenty of places and have never gotten a single survey, I'm really perplexed. Was hoping any Ody had experience with this.

[DEV] My friends and I released an app that may help freelancers

Posted: 09 Jun 2016 07:54 PM PDT

It is a contract making app where you can create your own contract or use a pre-written one for you and your clients to sign.

You start off by making a template where it can be filled out and signed many times for multiple clients. Fields you can include are names, addresses, phone numbers, dates, etc.

After it has been signed, the contract can be downloaded as a pdf file and then shared via email.

We think our app is well suited to your needs. It imposes no subscription fees or limits to the number of contracts you sign. If you have any feedback, we'd love to hear from you.

The download link is here. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jam.jamwaiver&hl=en

Any apps can make me enter PIN code before answer a call?

Posted: 09 Jun 2016 09:22 PM PDT

I'm a very sweaty person, especially in the summer, so if I didn't set up PIN or pattern lock, my phone would "auto unlock" and mess it up. But PIN or pattern lock doesn't apply to a phone call, I just have to touch or swipe to answer. but when I pull my phone out of pocket to answer a call, it think I'm touching screen so it would auto answer/decline it or when I'm walking my phone would auto answer/decline without my knowledge. It's very frustrating especially when you're waiting for a important phone call and your phone "auto decline" it and you didn't know about it.

[QUESTION] What other calendar app supports the regular Google Connect?

Posted: 10 Jun 2016 07:45 AM PDT

I hear Sunrise is closing down :( so I am looking for another calendar app that supports the regular Google Connect, you know, where you don't have to add your account to the phone. Work google does not let me do it. Sunrise prompts this - http://i.imgur.com/tYFzaA7.png so I can add my work calendar.

Subscriptions for apps, what would you pay?

Posted: 10 Jun 2016 07:14 AM PDT

Okay so my opinion is that the current pricing model is not sustainable going forward. You have a ad supported version that gives the dev an ongoing income or a paid for version with no ads which gives the dev a one off payment. As an app ages new users will plateau resulting in less income for the dev and thereby less impetus to update and support. A way around this is subscription based apps, Apple is said to be announcing their version a wwdc and already some apps have started dark star for example.

So how much would you pay and for which apps?

$5pa for redditsync, solid explorer and Fenix I would have no trouble with.

What's your opinion?

Looking for an alternative to "fqrouter2" to use my phone as a WiFi repeater!

Posted: 10 Jun 2016 04:49 AM PDT

Does anyone know if there is any app out there able to do this? Seems like "fqrouter2" (which you could previously use on a rooted device to make use of multiple wifi modules) has been discontinued. I find it hard to believe that it was the only app out there able to do this, but I can't find anything similar... do any of you people know an app like that?

I have been using Llama for quite a while now and while it works for my purposes it seems that it is not being updated anymore and I am looking around to try out a new tool. I know everyone will have their own opinions about which is best but can someone provide me your pros/cons of the various options so I can try to make a decision about which one I should try out.

Is there a reliable notes app that will sync with the notes application on OSX?

Posted: 10 Jun 2016 08:06 AM PDT

I am using one called Notepad, which does sort of work, but it's not compatible the latest version of OS X notes. It is also slow to sync and sometimes duplicates inexplicably appear. I am concerned I may delete the wrong version and lose important stuff.

I am considering switching everything to Evernote, or some other more reliale cross platform application. Before I do that, though - can anyone recommend an alternative? I can't be alone!

Giving up on TuneIn. Which radio app would you recommend instead?

Posted: 10 Jun 2016 07:39 AM PDT

I've been a massive TuneIn fan since I started using smarthphones. I really liked its interface, large catalog of stations and features. Switching from station to station just to see what they're playing is one of my favourite ways of discovering music. I never really updated the app, so when I bought a new phone I was surprised to see a new version of app. Excuse me, but REMOVING THE CATEGORIES OF FAVORITES? I had 200-300 stations bookmarked! It ruined the whole experience for me. I found the old version, but today it stopped working and I think it's time to say goodbye.

Feature I care most about is CATEGORIZING FAVORITES. Just that. I heard a lot of good things about XiiaLive and I do like the interface and some features (Last.fm scrobbling, for example), but again, you can't sort the bookmarks into categories. I'm already unhappy about rebuilding the favorites, but at least I need a way to sort them.

What else? Nice database of stations of course, it doesn't need to be as large as TI's one, but of course the app would allow to add the station manually by URL. Possibility to check what the station is currently playing. Supporting all the most important formats like aac or ogg.

Recording isn't necessary but would be nice.

Google Keyboard not auto-capitalizing the letter "i".

Posted: 09 Jun 2016 11:07 AM PDT

First off, I have the latest version of Google Keyboard, on Android N preview 3. I'm not sure if this is a bug, or if it's working as planned, but it's kind of annoying that I have to either select the suggestion, or go back and change the letter i to a capital. Every other keyboard I've used does it automatically. Is there something I can do to fix it? I've checked all the settings and there doesn't seem to be anything there.

Edit: Got it fixed thanks to /u/SBoots. I had checked the personal dictionary earlier, but I didn't go into specific language settings, I thought "All Languages" included everything from all of the languages. It's good now.

[DEV] GifWidget – Decorate home screen with gifs

Posted: 10 Jun 2016 01:02 AM PDT

Hello everyone,

GifWidget is our customization app that – as the name suggests – displays gifs on your launcher's home screen inside widgets. You can use any gif, and it will endlessly loop in the widget.

The app has been quietly around for a while, and we have recently redone it from scratch to make it even better. It also now integrates with Giphy to make it easy to find gifs.

We think this is a quite unique customization. There have been gif live wallpapers around, but for some gifs such as game characters or similar with a transparent background, a widget is what looks best.

The app comes in free and paid versions; the only difference is that in the free version you can use just one gif at a time.

Please give it a go and let us know what you think.

GifWidget can be found in the Play store here:

Is there an app that prevents Euro Cup spoilers? Particularly on Facebook.

Posted: 09 Jun 2016 10:25 PM PDT

Is there any app that can filter out key words and block those posts? I want to be able to record Euro Cup games and watch them when I get off work without having to worry that someone will make a post and spoil the results on my Facebook.

Is this even a thing?

Solid Explorer is an utter piece of shit. Any file manager apps that don't suck, don't bug out with SD cards and aren't slow?

Posted: 10 Jun 2016 05:49 AM PDT

I used to use Root Explorer for years but it's generally on the slower side and more limited than newer file manager apps. I moved on to Solid Explorer about a year ago but I'm fed up with it and so beyond frustrated with it.

My work flow with SE involves constantly performing only one action at a time (move, delete, extract etc) then having to go to settings and force closing it, sometimes data wiping it, and then re-opening and performing the next action. Action queues are hit or miss and commonly after one action the next won't trigger.

I have the paid versions of both these apps and use an NVIDIA Shield K1 tablet on Android 6.0.1 with a high speed 90-95 mbps microSD for both random read and write.

The other issue I have with SE is that on my Zenfone 2 the folder view settings for global/individual never fucking stick.

I've had it up to here with SE but RE is unbearably slow (25mins to archive a 700mb file? No thanks!) and after using a more modern file management app, I have to admit that RE has gotten left behind in a lot of features and usability!

Please recommend me a modern, performant file management app (I don't need root capabilities) that is reliable and won't want to make me bang my head against a wall when accessing internal storage (SD card as adopted storage).
