(X-post /r/google) Posted: 19 May 2016 09:47 AM PDT So, I had my laptop stolen a few weeks ago and as part of the process of protecting my information I changed the password to my Google account. I had activated 2-step authorization for my account, so after changing the password a code was sent to my phone...which is where I realized the problem. Stupidly, I had the code sent to my phone which is using Hangouts as the default messenger and since the password for the account is now different Hangouts will not update to show newly received messages, meaning I cannot receive my 2-step authorization code. Since then I have attempted to make use of the online account recovery form to no avail. The first time I tried Google sent an email to my associated recovery email with the following text:
I replied to the message as indicated since I was still unable to receive my authorization code, but never received any type of response. I have since then tried the account recovery form 3 more times, only to be told that, "Unfortunately, based on the information you provided, we were unable to verify that you own [my email]@gmail.com". The message includes links encouraging me to fill out the same account recovery form that I have tried repeatedly, which is not helping me in the slightest. I have tried looking for an appropriate phone number to call, but anytime I find one that seems like it should work, I am greeted with an automated message encouraging me to make use of the online methods of account support (i.e. filling out the account recovery form...again). Has anyone had this problem, and if so how did you resolve it? I've been a huge fan of Google services in the past, but the shitty support is driving me insane. I am unable to access my Gmail, Google Drive, Google Play Music, and all other forms of Google services. Perhaps the most frustrating is that since I merged my Sprint number with a Google Voice number a few years ago, I have been unable to receive incoming texts for weeks. I'm in desperate need of help, and every method I have tried to solve the issue has been fruitless. TL;DR: Locked out of Google account and can't get it back. Google's customer support is shit and I have not had access to all of my Google services for weeks. Need help. Update:I have used the instructions found here to test SMS on my phone and I am able to receive SMS and MMS messages. Anyone know why I'm not receiving the verification codes from Google? | New To Android - Battery Life Questions Posted: 19 May 2016 09:22 AM PDT I got the Droid Turbo 2 (verizon) with the idea of good battery life in mind. So far, it has only been "okay" battery life; definitely not the 48 hours promised in the advertising department. It's an overall good phone though, so I'm happy to work with that flaw. My question is, since I'm new to android I don't know this, are there any small ways to improve battery life? I am on Marshmallow, so there is doze working in the background. As far as push notifications go, what do I change? Also, what android bloatware can I disable for better battery life. Any comments are much appreciated! [link] [comments]  |
| Battery Problems on HTC One M8 Posted: 19 May 2016 12:21 PM PDT So I ordered a refurbished HTC One M8 off of Amazon, and it came today. I opened it up, plugged it in, and set up my accounts. I then noticed that it was charging really slowly, maybe 1% every 15-30 min. I called HTC, and they said to put it in safe mode. I did, and then it started losing charge while plugged in on safe mode. I called HTC again, and they said to factory reset the phone. I did this twice, and it did not help. On battery settings, the android system is taking up 76% of battery. Help? [link] [comments]  |

| Broken touchscreen, how to control my locked phone using a mouse ? Posted: 19 May 2016 05:46 AM PDT Hello, My Oneplus One's touch screen is broken, but the lcd works fine. I have controlled my phone with a mouse before (using the appropriate adapter), however, it only worked after I unlocked the phone. Posted: 19 May 2016 09:15 AM PDT I love the idea of app developers listing their apps early and letting users pre-register for them. I would love to occasionally take a look at all apps available for pre-registration, but I can't seem to find how. At one point a couple weeks ago, one of the banner ads at the top of the play store had a link to an game's pre-registration, and via that I was able to list multiple games available for pre-registration, but I lost that link unfortunately. | Pixel C running Android N beta won't boot after latest update! Posted: 19 May 2016 02:59 PM PDT So after receiving the latest I/O update on my Pixel C it won't boot. Stranger yet the recovery menu appears to be empty (so there's no option in there for a factory reset). To make matters even worse since the update was offered OTA and this isn't a device I dev on I don't appear to have any computers authorized for USB debugging so I can't even see what's going on when it attempts to boot :_| What options do I have left? I can't seem to use adb to flash anything because I don't have any authorized device. The Android N beta appears to not ship with Recovery mode tools (or my device had some error that prevented them from being correctly installed). | Posted: 19 May 2016 02:14 PM PDT so recently i've gotten the at&t unlimited data plan which also happens to not support tethering however, i would like to tether my phone to my computer while using data i have no tethering apps as of right now because i didnt want to get into that without knowing what i was doing i don't use more than 10 GB a month have: samsung galaxy s5 active (not rooted) also: before i got the plan i only tethered data to my computer when i was playing multiplayer online games. i used wifi for browsing the internet, listening to music, watching youtube and any other stuff that doesnt require a good connection so, how can i tether data to my computer with an unlimited data plan from at&t [link] [comments]  |

| Can't get through hotel Wi-Fi login form on Android TV stick? On both Chrome and Browser... Posted: 19 May 2016 10:08 AM PDT I'm at a Marriot hotel whereby Wi-Fi access is controlled via a guest login page that pops up when you connect to the open network. My iPhone, MacBook, and Windows laptop all load the page successfully and allow me access when I input my room number and surname. However, I have an HDMI android stick plugged into the TV, and when I enter my same login details in browser on that, it just takes me to a blank page (The address is "10.10.48.7/auth/pms.php"). Usually when I log onto wifi from this Android stick, even if I have to navigate through a splash page, it connects as normal. I've tried this in both chrome, and also the inbuilt browser app that came with my android installation. Both of them deliver the same result. Does anyone know what could cause the router (or whatever is controlling guest Wi-Fi access in the hotel) to take me to this blank screen instead of the usual Marriot homepage when connected…? I'm well aware that connecting to hotel Wi-Fi via the splash pages is a bit of a fine art, especially when trying to connect from any device that isn't a standard smart phone or laptop… Does it maybe have something to do with the Rueter only allowing certain types of device, and if so is there any way I can "spoof" and if so is there any way I can "spoof" my android stick into displaying its device type differently? I've tried a bunch of tutorials to root it, all failures. I've also tried to update the UI from V2.8.1 to V3.68 (necessary to flash cyanogen) but all the links for the .zip file are on Chinese websites and I can't manage to make them work.
